Synopsis:
In a retirement village, four residents- Ron, Elizabeth, Joyce and Ibrahim meet every thursday to solve cold murder cases. Solving murders is their usual pasttime but when the developer of their village is found dead in his home, they find themselves in the middle of a live murder investigation. The murder turns into murders and soon members of the Thursday Murder Club realise that there is more to what meets the eye. Can these 80-something residents catch the killer before it's too late?
Review:
First of all, the concept of residents living in a retirement village who solve murders on Thursdays was so different that it instantly caught my eye.
Also, the characters were written in a way that each and every one of them had a distinct personality which came out strongly.
The book was moderately paced, and the first half wasn’t as gripping as expected, but the comical nature of the conversations between the characters made it more enjoyable. The text conversations between Joyce and PC Donna de Freitas made me laugh so hard.
The senior citizens were warm, witty and straight-up adorable. You can’t help but smile as you read about their escapades.
By the end, the plot became quite complex, and it was hard to keep track of what happened, but the mystery was well planned out. I didn’t feel like I was on the edge of my seat as the murderer was uncovered, but the ending was nonetheless surprising.
Overall, this book felt like a warm cup of coffee enjoyed on a rainy day: a perfect light, entertaining read. The reason I recommend you to read this book is for its characters. I bet you’ll fall in love with them!
